Portrait photography can either be candid or posed. I like candid shots the best because the individual doesn’t know that the photo is being taken, and therefore they won’t have their “camera face” on. Portrait photography is almost always a study of contrasts. The innocence of young children contrasted by the tired, sad eyes of an older individual who has seen too much of the world’s trials and tribulations. Don’t forget color contrasts between black, white, brown, or yellow. How about ethnic characteristics? Or, the environmental influences that show contrasts? Can you guess where someone might live or what their personalities might be like by looking at these photos?
